Last week I posted this awesome stock up deal on Scott, Windex and Scrubbing Bubbles at H-E-B and I noticed a comment that made me chuckle. Someone shared this deal on another page with the caption “I don’t know why you’d need that many, but …”. The part that was funny to me is that this is actually a small amount of each item to purchase, but it got me thinking that some people may not understand how important the concept of stocking up is when using coupons. While you don’t need enough products to last you the rest of your life, you do want to purchase enough to get you to the next sale (generally about 2-3 months weeks) or as many as you have coupons for.
Let’s use the Windex as an example. The regular price is $2.47 per bottle. Between my doors, windows and mirrors we go through about 1 bottle per month which means I would spend roughly $30 on Windex every year. I was able to get it for .58-.66 per bottle during the sale which makes it around $7 per year. I was able to save $23 for the year just on one product! Imagine the savings when you apply that principal to nearly everything you buy!
Why did I choose to buy 4? There are actually a few reasons one being the coupons — This particular deal required products to be bought in groups of three so I purchased a total of 18 products mixing and matching my manufacturer coupon stacks. I could have easily bought a few more, but Windex will go on sale again and I will be able to get it for a similar price so there is no need for me buy many more. We are also PCSing soon so I don’t want to have to move a large amount of items. And last, but not least, I am not the only person who loves a good deal so I always only grab what I actually need and leave plenty of product on teh shelf…even if it’s a freebie. Within 6 months of couponing you will be amazed how large your stockpile can get even when you just buy a few items at a time so there really is no need to go crazy!
Another great way to save money on cleaning supplies is to make your own! You would be surprised how much you can save in a year by making your own window cleaner, laundry detergent and more! You can check out some recipes on My Spring Cleaning Pin Board.
