Any of you who have lived in the Fort Hood area know that finding good produce can be a challenge. I came across a site last night that is new to me and wanted to share for any of you who might be interested in checking out. Bountiful Baskets is a food co-op where people come together to buy food at a discounted rate. There is a local pick-up location at Mountain View Elementary School in Harker Heights on Saturdays at 3:00 pm (during B weeks). If you live in another part of Texas or the U.S. go here to find a location near you.
“The Co-op offers a conventional produce basket very other week which is generally ½ fruit and ½ veggies. The monetary contribution is $15.00 and is generally worth $50.00 retail. Organic baskets require a contribution of $25. To participate visit Bountiful Baskets and check the schedule to see when your state is available to make your monitary contribution using a debit or credit card. Then, pick up your basket on Saturday morning at the time and place you chose when you contributed!”
If you would like to learn more about participating, you can get Step by Step instructions here. First timers will have to pay a one-time fee of $3, but after that it’s just $15 per basket and according to the site most baskets have a retail of $50 meaning if you were to buy the items from a supermarket that is what it would cost you. You can also opt for an organic upgrade for an extra $10.
Looking at the schedule the next B week is June 16th. Orders open on Mondays at 12 pm and they say that some sites will sell out quickly so if you want in be there on time! Note the pickup time when you order because you have a limited time to pick up your order or it will be donated so make sure you are available to pick up before placing an order!
